Dear Colleagues member of the Health Service Research and Outcome Section of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine

The number of HSRO section members has increased by approximately 25% in the last year. The 22nd ESICM Congress held in Vienna 11-14 October 2009 has been a great success and the Section has contributed towards many sessions, all attended by large numbers of people.

The meeting of the Section has been attended by 21 persons excluding myself, who participated despite the early hour in the morning! Many proposals for the program of the next ESICM Congress in Barcelona have been discussed and I hope that they will be accepted.

I am proud of chairing such an active Section. I thank all Section members for their active involvement, and especially Andreas Valentin, the Deputy, for the work done in the Research Committee and as Chair of the WG on Quality improvement, Philipp Metnitz as Chair of the WG on Outcome, Paolo Merlani as Chair of the WG on Health Economics, and, last but not least, Clemens Kittel who handle this web site.
